Inbox Shepherd was born in a church pew, not a boardroom.
How it started
Inbox Shepherd was started by Greg Lake after a Sunday at church, where he learned that many members of his congregation had been receiving phishing emails that pretended to come from their own priest. The messages looked real — a familiar name, an urgent request — but they were sent by scammers hoping to trick the very people who trusted that name most.
What it became
What began as a way to protect one congregation from fraud grew into something bigger: a free tool anyone can use to tell real emails from fakes. No technical knowledge needed — just paste in a suspicious message, and we'll tell you plainly whether it looks safe.
The registry
Today, Inbox Shepherd keeps a registry of tens of thousands of churches, banks, and organizations so their genuine emails are recognized — and impostors are caught. When we spot a fake, we point you to the real company's verified phone number or website, so you never have to trust anything inside a suspicious email.
